"There is no outside-text"

Jacques Derrida

Meaning is not created independently from the text. The text is how the meaning is mediated to the reader, therefore it constructs the reality for its reader. As the father of deconstruction, Derrida would say deconstructing a text could reveal hidden meanings in the text such as any individual or cultural biases the author might have. We can find these biases by analyzing the text, its sentence structure and any specific word choice over another. How the text is formed gives away hidden meanings.

On the next page, you will see deconstruction of two news sources about why Turkey left the Istanbul Convention.
One article is from a Western news site and the other one is from a pro-Turkish government news site.
Through deconstructing the text we can reveal the author's opinions, which also conveys a political message and thus without looking at the source website, we can guess which news source is which.
** if you don't want to guess the source, links to sources is at the bottom of the page**

How to use:

Different colors open up different analyses such as author's bias, additional informations, sentence structure and possible meanings.
Hover on to the different colored texts and pop-up blocks will open with further information.

DISCLAIMER:
Although meaning can be derived from the text, additional insights will be given by the interpreter since she has some cultural, historical and societal insights regarding the subject matter. She will try her best to leave all her learned knowledge and assumptions behind ( as is needed for Deconstruction) but can’t promise an entirely objective output, as the meaning she gets out of these texts will be related to her cultural and social background and experiences.
